Catch Them Yourself
Heading to bed after another day of fishing with Doug. Just finished off a fillet of snapper as thick as steak. Funny how they taste better when you catch them yourself.
Over a couple Kaliks we realized this was our 15th annual fishing trip to Abaco. At first that made me feel old. But what it really makes me is lucky.
Of course, this trip really isn’t about fishing. It’s about catching up with my brother. But without the fishing, it wouldn’t happen. On the boat we might not talk for an hour. And that’s the thing – we don’t have to. Just hanging out on the water again while tying lines, watching the bait, and smoking a couple good cigars says more than words ever could. We might not speak much. But we know everything’s been said.
Life has changed quite a bit since we started coming down here. We’ve moved to difference parts of the country. We have different interests. Most people would probably say we have nothing in common. But the water is still the same color. The Marlin still crash that bait. And Doug is still my big brother.
